The Goldbergs Best Moments: ‘Lainey Loves Lionel’

The Goldbergs Best Moments 'Lainey Loves Lionel'

The Goldbergs went to the Cineplex with its latest episode and reminded me what it was like to not be able to see a movie because of the ‘R’ rating. I’m almost positive that every single kid alive will have gone through this at some point in their young lives and I have fond memories of being told that I was not allowed to rent a movie because it was “inappropriate for children” (yup, we had to rent movies in the ’80s). This time, The Goldbergs brought the ’80s cult classic movie Porky’s to center stage with Adam and his friends desperately wanting to see the movie. Of course, Beverly doesn’t give Adam the permission he so desperately needs.

It was a Valentine’s Day themed episode of The Goldbergs so put on some Lionel Richie and enjoy the best moments from Lainey Loves Lionel

Before I get to the best moments, however, I wanted to include the original trailer from Porky’s in case anyone is unfamiliar with the movie. Check it out below:

5. Sneaking Into An R-Rated Movie

Adam and his friends badly want to see Porky’s so they come up with a scheme to sneak into the movie by buying tickets to see Annie and, really, who didn’t attempt this when they were younger. Plus we got this hilarious quote from David Kim:

"Bear witness to the end of my innocence, bro!"

Of course, Adam gets cold feet and ends up watching Annie while his friends are able to turn themselves into men. Poor Adam.

4. The original ‘Hello’

33 years before Adele, this was the Hello that took the world by storm:

I really don’t think anyone could pull off the mullet quite like Lionel Richie. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, Barry decides to recreate the Lionel Richie clay bust from the music video for Lainey, with hilarious results.

I definitely have to agree with Erica here. This thing looks like Sloth from The Goonies got botched plastic surgery.

3. The ’80s: Where Rules Were Meant to be Broken

Adam gets the bright idea in his head that he needs to fly to Seattle to visit Dana and I couldn’t help but laugh at his experience in the airport. He’s totally right though, the ’80s were much looser when it came to everything!

“You can meet the captain and we’ll let you steer the plane.”

Clearly this would never happen in today’s world. Right, Adam?

2. Beverly Goldberg gives us another ‘F’ Bomb

With Adam attempting to flee to Seattle to see his girlfriend after getting grounded, Bev is super upset and decides to treat us all to another one of her amazing ‘F’ bombs. This will literally never get old.

“Adam used to be a good boy, and now he’s a real F@#$&%#!”

1. Erica’s reaction to Barry’s Lainey Heads

Poor Barry, he tries so hard. Unfortunately, pottery is not one of his talents. Luckily for all of us, we got this priceless reaction from Erica as Barry was showing her some of his best work.

And as an added bonus:

Erica gagging

Sorry Barry, time to come up with a new plan even if Lainey did appreciate the effort.

Lainey Loves Lionel had some great moments and brought back some memories. Plus, once again, the message at the very end of the episode was the perfect way to wrap things up even if I hate everything about Valentine’s Day. Remember folks, that’s the thing about love….it makes you want to take risks and go out on a limb no matter the consequence. But for the right person, it’s totally worth it. So cheesy, I know…but this was the ’80s after all. Thanks for reading fellow Goldberg fans.
